PSI Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C) 

This course is approved by Postpartum Support International (PSI) to satisfy the Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C) requirement for 6-hours advanced training. PSI offers this certification for providers of Mental Health / Psychotherapy, Psychopharmacology (Prescribers, including all professionals who prescribe medication including Advanced Practice Nurses, PAs and PharmD), and Affiliated Professions (Peer Supporters/Peer Specialists, Nurses, Doulas, Lactation, Support Group Leaders, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Dietitians, Community Health Workers, Speech Therapists, and others).

Upon completion, Perinatal Mental Health advanced training documentation can be submitted on the PSI website

General Information


Target Audience 

  • This activity is intended for doctors, nurses, physician assistants, psychologists, social workers, and birth workers engaged in the care of patients during pregnancy.

 

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  • Define and describe trauma responses in pregnancy after loss.
  • Identify mental health needs and appropriate interventions.
  • Describe the increased physical health risks in pregnancy after loss
  • Identify the reasons and outcomes behind The Rainbow Clinic Model
  • Demonstrate empathetic communications tailored to each trimester
  • Implement trimester-specific support interventions
  • Explain how to coordinate with the multidisciplinary team for comprehensive care
  • Recognize key triggers and provide coping strategies for anxiety or distress for each trimester
  • Create plans to evaluate and adjust care plans base on trimester specific needs.

Continuing Physician Assistant Education

Postgraduate Institute for Medicine has been authorized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 6.0 AAPA Category 1 CME credits. Approval is valid until April 9, 2026. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.

Continuing Social Work Education

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Postgraduate Institute for Medicine is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Postgraduate Institute for Medicine maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive 6.0 Clinical continuing education credits.

Continuing Psychologist Education 

Continuing Education (CE) credits for psychologists are provided through the co-sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP). The APA CEP Office maintains responsibility for the content of the programs. Credit Designation: This program offers 6.0 continuing education credits for psychologists.
